About us
Who we are
The Dagu Ethiopian Development Consortium (Dagu) is a collective of local Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in the Afar Region of Ethiopia. It was established to address the urgent and systemic challenges faced by local CSOs in the region, such as isolation, inadequate capacity, scarce resources, and minimal policy influence.
The Dagu’s core purpose is to pool resources, amplify the collective voice, and leverage the expertise of its member CSOs to create a more significant and sustainable impact in the Afar Region.
Our Vision
A future where the Afar Region is characterized by inclusive governance, sustainable development, lasting peace, and resilient communities.
Our Mission
To serve as a unified platform for CSOs in Afar, enhancing their collective voice, visibility, and impact in governance, development, peacebuilding, and humanitarian response
The Afar Region of Ethiopia faces a convergence of profound challenges, including historical marginalization, the devastating impacts of recent conflict, mass displacement, strained humanitarian systems, and fractured social cohesion. In this complex environment, local Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) are essential frontline actors for service delivery, advocacy, peacebuilding, and fostering community resilience.
However, these local CSOs operate under severe constraints: isolation, inadequate institutional capacity, scarce financial resources, and minimal influence on policy and decision-making processes. Their ability to respond effectively is hindered by these systemic weaknesses, often excluding them from the very governance and development processes they seek to improve.
The Dagu Ethiopian Development Consortium (Dagu) was established as a direct response to these urgent and systemic challenges. We are a collective of local CSOs united by a common purpose: to amplify our voice, pool our resources, and leverage our collective expertise to create a more significant, sustainable impact in the Afar Region.
